MECHANICAL DYNAMICS has developed a revolutionary gearing technology called the Ovality X Drive™ ( OXD ). Our unique drive technology utilizes our patent pending, Asymmetrical Geometric Self-Braking™. This principle not only generates the torque multiplication / speed reduction, but also allows for continuous holding and control braking directly integrated into the design of the gear drive. This gives our products the ability to defy gravity by directly and constantly engaging the full output torque applied to the gear system. This functionality eliminates the need for external holding brakes, counterbalance valves, regenerative braking systems, and other gravity countering mechanisms by geometrically dissipating the potential energy created by the load. Our integrated braking technology does not rely on friction discs, mechanical clutches or other conventional braking methodologies. Instead this phenomenon is geometrically inherent to the design.

Reminiscent of a Spanish Inquisition era torture device, our custom rack and pinion test rig is intent on punishment. Designed around a fully adjustable, hydraulic load cell cylinder designed by Hydradyne New Orleans. The load cell is actuated by the reciprocating motion of the gear rack. As the pinion gear drives the rack, pressure is induced inside cylinder and provides bidirectional loading. Our prototypes are subjected to constant loading to accelerate the results.
